Zero Cheating: AI Content Detection Chrome Extension

A Chrome extension proof of concept that helps educators tell AI-written work from student-written work in online assessments.

Zero Cheating at a glance

Zero Cheating is a Chrome extension that keeps online exams fair by telling AI-written content apart from a student's own work. Earlier attempts by other teams had failed, so we built a lightweight JavaScript proof of concept. It proved the idea worked and helped secure further investment.

Fair assessment for every student

The extension supports fair online exams by separating AI-generated text from writing the student produced.

Protecting the fairness and integrity of online exams.

Prove it works, then build it

The proof of concept showed the extension working in a controlled environment before anyone committed to a full build.

Problem

Why start with a proof of concept?

The goal was fairer, more trustworthy online exams. But other teams had tried and failed, and doubts about whether it could work at all had stalled the project and delayed its launch.

Solution

How we built Zero Cheating

We proposed a proof of concept (POC) to show the extension working in a controlled environment before a full rollout. We wrote it in JavaScript, kept it lightweight and made it work alongside tools people already use, such as Google Drive.

Technology stack

  • JavaScript

  • Chrome extension

  • MERN stack

  • Google APIs

What does the Zero Cheating extension do?

Screens from the proof of concept show it inside Google Drive, with a class folder holding an academic integrity quiz, an AI-use announcement and a student list.

  • AI-written content detection

  • Google Drive integration

  • Class folder setup

  • Lightweight Chrome extension

What did the proof of concept achieve?

  • It showed the extension was technically feasible, after earlier attempts by other teams had failed.
  • It played a key part in securing further investment for Zero Cheating.

Questions about this project

Quick answers about Zero Cheating.

What is the Zero Cheating extension?

A Chrome extension that helps keep online exams fair. It separates AI-generated text from writing a student produced, so educators can grade with more confidence. We built the proof of concept, and it helped secure further investment.

How does a Chrome extension detect AI-written content?

It runs in the browser where assignments are written and reviewed, and checks the content to separate AI-generated text from human writing. As a lightweight extension, it works inside tools schools already use, like Google Drive.

Why build a proof of concept first?

A POC answers the riskiest question, whether the idea can work at all, before anyone commits to a full build. Other teams had failed at this one, so a focused POC gave investors working evidence quickly.

Which technologies power Zero Cheating?

The extension is written in JavaScript for Google Chrome, which keeps it light. The supporting application uses the MERN stack, and Google APIs connect the extension to tools such as Drive.
